Lenten Retreat!

Hello Second Grade Families,
This up coming Wednesday, the second graders will be going on their Lenten retreat at St. Rose Catholic Church in Anthem.  Afterwards, the students will enjoy their lunches at Anthem Park.  Please make sure to pack your child a sack lunch with their name labeled on the outside of the bag.  The Kindergarteners will be attending the retreat with us too!  It's going to be a beautiful day remembering the cross that Christ carried for us all.  Please continue reading to discover what other activities will be taking place both inside the second grade and right here at ACS!

Spelling ~ Suffixes ~ y, ly, ful
Grammar ~ Irregular Verbs
Writing ~ Informative Writing
Target Skill ~ Conclusions, Sequence of Events, Summarizing

Math ~ The students will begin their lessons on telling time and money concepts.

Science ~

The students began their lessons on plants last week.  The students have already learned key vocabulary for their plants lessons, viewed a "Brain pop jr." video on the life cycle of plants, and are conducting a lima bean experiment.  The students made mini green houses utilizing sandwich bags and paper towels.  The children are now observing the growth of their lima bean.

Currently, the second graders are also observing the development of caterpillars into butterflies inside our classroom.  This week, every student will be planting  a flower in the "Second Grade Garden" which will be located on our playground.  Once our caterpillars go through their metamorphosis into butterflies, the students will release their winged friends into our butterfly garden.  This wonderful scientific experience will be our service project to honor our classroom saint, St. Kateri.  It is going to be such a meaningful experience for the second graders.  A big thank you to Mrs. Vogelsang for getting our garden ready for us!

Religion ~
The students will continue to  learn and practice "The Examination of Conscience" to prepare them for the sacrament of Reconciliation.

This week, the students will be creating a multi sensory book of "The Stations of the Cross."  Our focus this week will be on "The Passion of Christ."

The students will pray during a variety of times throughout our school day.

The students will attend "The Stations of the Cross" and Mass this week.
