Spring is in the air!

Hello Second Grade Families,
The season of Spring is in full swing and the kids are beginning to anticipate the gift of summer.  To assist the kids in staying focused, our second grade homework has looked quite different for the last two weeks.  Please make sure that your child completes their biography reading on their assigned scientist.  Once your child completes their book, they will need to complete the biographical reading log that was sent home last Monday.  All of the reading logs will be due on Thursday, April 26th.  On Friday, the students will begin writing their research reports in class and will need their reading logs to assist them.  Also, please have your child return the book that they borrowed from our classroom library, as I will need the books for the students next year.  Please continue reading to discover what will be taking place both in the second grade and right here at ACS.
Spelling ~ Words with oo, ew, ue, ou
Grammar ~ Contractions
Writing ~ The students will respond to poems!
Informative Writing (Research Report ~ Famous Scientists!!!)
Target Skill ~  Story Structure, Conclusions, Infer/Predict

Math ~ The students will continue their lessons on telling time and money concepts.

Social Studies ~ The students will begin their lessons on economics.  Our focus will be on "needs" versus "wants."

 Religion ~  

The students will pray during a variety of times throughout our school day.


The students will attend our school wide Mass this week and Community Prayer.


 The students will continue studying and understanding "The Parts of the Mass."
  • IXL ~ This site will assist your child in their math skills.
  • Your child's username and passwords to these sites are located inside their agendas.

Homework

The students have been assigned a famous scientist and they will need to finish their research.  Please know that every child was given a book from my personal classroom collection in which to read.
 All books will be due back in class on April 30th, 2018.

  Hello Second Grade Families, The last week of the school year has arrived...and so, here's to making this last week together fun, special, and positively memorable!  Please know that we will be doing a lot of unique and engaging learning activities this week in order to keep the students learning in a more interesting and exciting way!   Hello Second Grade Families, Happy Mother's Day to all of our wonderful second grade moms!  I hope that you each have had a beautiful day!  May is off to a busy start and your children are anticipating the gift of summer that's right around the corner.  Below are a few items to keep you in the loop about both school wide behavioral expectations and second grade academics. The students are required to have their shirts tucked in while school is in session.  Jackets are no longer needed as it is now warming up. The second graders will have a Spelling test this week, so make sure to have your child study in order to best prepare them for their test on Friday. There will be no more reading homework for the remainder of the school year! All of the second graders will soon be assessed on their reading fluency prior to exiting the grade level.  Your child's reading abilities will be communicated to you with your child's report card at the end of the school year. Let's Take A Moment to Stop And Smell the Roses!

  Hello Second Grade Families, There are only ten more days of school left!  Let's stop to savor these last few weeks of second grade.  Please know that your child will not have anymore spelling tests, or nightly reading homework.  Enjoy the extra family time and allowing your child to get a full night's rest.
