Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving Second Grade Families!
Here's to the day where we celebrate all of our blessings!  May this Thanksgiving bless you with good food, good cheer, and surrounded by all those that you hold the most dear.  This week is a short week for all ACS students.  Monday and Tuesday will both be regular dismissal days.  However, all of the students will be dismissed at noon on Wednesday.  Due to it being a short week, your children will not have any homework, or any Spelling tests!  Instead, your children will be completing ELA lessons from last week's reading story, "Click, Clack, Moo;  Cows That Type."  Please continue reading this newsletter to discover all that will be taking place for the next three days of school.
Second Grade Specials:
Monday ~ Spanish and Art
Tuesday ~ PE and Spanish
Wednesday ~ Music
Thursday ~ PE
Friday ~ Library

ELA
The students will be learning:

  • Different types of sentences (statements, commands, questions)
  • Compound sentences
Social Studies
The students will be focusing on the history of the very first Thanksgiving. 
The students will learn about how the pilgrims and the Wampanoag Indians lived and how these two groups of people found a way to live in peace together.  The students will also learn that Squanto was a good friend to the pilgrims by showing them how to plant corn, and how to live in their new land.

 Science  
The students will have a STREAM activity with their 6th grade buddies on Wednesday, Nov. 21st.  The student's STREAM based activity is to collaboratively design and build a den for a turkey.  This lesson will allow the students to better understand how an animal's home not only provides them with shelter, but it also gives the animal needed protection from the weather and from predators.

 Religion
The students will pray during a variety of times through out the day. 

 The students will utilize their religion journal to write about blessings that they are grateful for.

  • IXL
  • Download a child centered math app on an I-pad and let your child practice their basic math facts.  Here are some suggestions, Sushi Monster, Prodigy Math,  or 2nd Grade Math.
  • Mathplayground.com is a free math based website for kids to practice their facts on too!

  Hello Second Grade Families, The last week of the school year has arrived...and so, here's to making this last week together fun, special, and positively memorable!  Please know that we will be doing a lot of unique and engaging learning activities this week in order to keep the students learning in a more interesting and exciting way! May is in full swing!

  Hello Second Grade Families, Happy Mother's Day to all of our wonderful second grade moms!  I hope that you each have had a beautiful day!  May is off to a busy start and your children are anticipating the gift of summer that's right around the corner.  Below are a few items to keep you in the loop about both school wide behavioral expectations and second grade academics. The students are required to have their shirts tucked in while school is in session.  Jackets are no longer needed as it is now warming up. The second graders will have a Spelling test this week, so make sure to have your child study in order to best prepare them for their test on Friday. There will be no more reading homework for the remainder of the school year! All of the second graders will soon be assessed on their reading fluency prior to exiting the grade level.  Your child's reading abilities will be communicated to you with your child's report card at the end of the school year. Let's Take A Moment to Stop And Smell the Roses!

  Hello Second Grade Families, There are only ten more days of school left!  Let's stop to savor these last few weeks of second grade.  Please know that your child will not have anymore spelling tests, or nightly reading homework.  Enjoy the extra family time and allowing your child to get a full night's rest.
