Advent ~ Week 3 ~ The Gift of Joy!

Hello Second Grade Families,
Welcome to the third week of advent where we celebrate the gift of joy!  This week will certainly a joyous one as it will be filled with many Christmas themed activities and events.  Our week will not consist of our typical learning lessons, but your children will be immersed in many wonderful activities that will prepare their spirits for Christmas!  May you all have a joyous week!  Please continue reading to discover all that will be taking place this week.

 Here is what will be taking place for our class Christmas celebration.  All of the second graders will be having a party where they visit five different stations.  
( Strong Communicators, Thoughtful Citizens, Active Christians, and Resourceful Learners)

The stations that the children will be experiencing are:
  • Station #1 ~  A Craft station (the kids will be creating light up snowmen.)  All of the materials have been purchased.
  • Station #2 ~ Writing station (The students will be writing letters to Santa Clause, or St. Nicholas, to thank him for his generosity.)  The letters will be delivered to Macy's where they contribute money for every letter donated to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
  • Station #3 ~ A treat station  
  • Station #4 ~ A service project station  The students will decorate bags & then they will place a variety of items inside the paper bags for a child in need.  The bags will be donated to St. Vincent De Paul for children that will be visiting their facility on Christmas Day.  The second graders will be Santa Clause for a child in need!
  • Station #5 ~ Christmas Bingo 

    Here's where I will need your help!  It would be wonderful to have every single student bring in one pair of warm, adorable socks to place into the Christmas bags that we will be donating to St. Vincent De Paul.  The students are also permitted to bring in one other simple item to place in the bag if they wish to do so.  A variety of dollar store items have already been purchased.  However, perhaps your child may like to send in a small toy or trinket to place in the bag as part of their donation to a child who is in need this Christmas.  Thank you in advance for all of your efforts!  It's my hope to assist the students in understanding that it's in the spirit of giving that we receive!

    Math (Resourceful Learners)
    The students will complete their lessons in unit 4 from our Go Math series!  This unit focused on double digit addition and subtraction.  

    Social Studies (Thoughtful Citizens)
    The students will complete their lessons on how children celebrate Christmas around the world.

    Religion (Active Christians)

      The students will continue to have daily Advent devotionals that are known as, "The Jesse Tree."  These lessons teach the students about the lineage of Christ.  The lessons also teach the students how to look up readings from a bible and how to reflect upon what was read.  The Jesse Tree is a great way to promote the true gift of Christmas which is the birth of Jesus Christ.
      • The students will attend our all school Mass on Friday, December 21st

      Hello Second Grade Families, The last week of the school year has arrived...and so, here's to making this last week together fun, special, and positively memorable!  Please know that we will be doing a lot of unique and engaging learning activities this week in order to keep the students learning in a more interesting and exciting way!       Hello Second Grade Families, Happy Mother's Day to all of our wonderful second grade moms!  I hope that you each have had a beautiful day!  May is off to a busy start and your children are anticipating the gift of summer that's right around the corner.  Below are a few items to keep you in the loop about both school wide behavioral expectations and second grade academics. The students are required to have their shirts tucked in while school is in session.  Jackets are no longer needed as it is now warming up. The second graders will have a Spelling test this week, so make sure to have your child study in order to best prepare them for their test on Friday. There will be no more reading homework for the remainder of the school year! All of the second graders will soon be assessed on their reading fluency prior to exiting the grade level.  Your child's reading abilities will be communicated to you with your child's report card at the end of the school year.     Let's Take A Moment to Stop And Smell the Roses!

      Hello Second Grade Families, There are only ten more days of school left!  Let's stop to savor these last few weeks of second grade.  Please know that your child will not have anymore spelling tests, or nightly reading homework.  Enjoy the extra family time and allowing your child to get a full night's rest.
