Happy Halloween!

Hello Second Grade Families, May you all have a "spooktacular" Halloween!   This week there are many activities taking place at ACS.   The students will be attending our school wide Community prayer on Monday, we will be enjoying a simple fun filled afternoon on Thursday to celebrate Halloween, and on All Saint's Day the school will be enjoying "Grandparent's Day", plus the students are permitted to visit our school "Frozen" themed Book Fair throughout this week.  There are many things taking place this week, so please continue reading our Second Grade newsletter to keep your self in the loop! Hello Second Grade Families, Let's begin this newsletter by celebrating all of the growth we are making as a second grade class this first trimester! The second graders are learning: How to share their time, space, people, and things That saying please and thank you shows gratitude How to walk in a line calmly and politely How to keep our desks organized and tidy That organizing our materials makes it easy to find our things That making positive choices has positive outcomes That making negative choices has negative outcomes That kindness matters That when we share, we show that we care How to use our words when we are frustrated utilizing our "Thinking Brain," so that our "Feeling Brain" doesn't take over our emotions How to be "kids for others" As you can see, we are working diligently in the second grade on developing strong social skills and in developing positive character traits.  The students are also making great strides

Fall is Everywhere!

Hello Second Grade Families, Welcome back from your 4 day "Fall Break."  Hopefully, you and your family were able to enjoy the extended weekend to the fullest!  This week your children will resume their regular learning schedule and this will include studying for their weekly Spelling test and reading each night for at least 15 minutes and completing their reading log.  The homework will be due on Friday and the Spelling test will be given on Friday too.  Also,  this week the students will begin their formal writing lessons.  The second graders will be learning the six steps to the writing process (brainstorming, making a rough draft, editing, revising, and creating their final draft.)  Every formal writing piece that your child composes in the second grade, will be kept inside their individual three ring binders.  By the end of this school year, every second grader will have a collection of writing samples that will be sent home with them.  Please continue reading to find

October is here!

Hello Second Grade Families, October has arrived and even your children have commented that the air is feeling cooler!  Yippee!  Here's to a wonderful, yet busy month ahead.  Please note that your children do not have school this upcoming Friday, October 11th, due to Educator Day for the teachers within the diocese.  The students also have Monday, October 14th, off from school.   May you all enjoy this much needed  "Fall Break."  Due to this change in our schedule, your children will have their weekly Spelling Test on Thursday and your child's reading log will be due on Thursday too.  Please continue reading to discover all that will be taking place during this short 4 day school week.
