Happy Halloween!

Hello Second Grade Families,
May you all have a "spooktacular" Halloween!   This week there are many activities taking place at ACS.   The students will be attending our school wide Community prayer on Monday, we will be enjoying a simple fun filled afternoon on Thursday to celebrate Halloween, and on All Saint's Day the school will be enjoying "Grandparent's Day", plus the students are permitted to visit our school "Frozen" themed Book Fair throughout this week.  There are many things taking place this week, so please continue reading our Second Grade newsletter to keep your self in the loop!

ELA
Essential question that the students will answer:  
What is special about animals that live in the ocean?
Target Skills:  Fact and Opinion, Author's Purpose, Monitor/Clarify
Writing Focus:  Informative Writing, Instructions
Grammar Focus:  Verbs (Present, Past, and Future)
Spelling Focus:  Contractions
Review and Challenge Words:  us, them, they’re, wouldn't
Due to Halloween and All Saint's Day activities there will not be a Spelling Test this week.

Math
The students will continue studying Place Value and Addition concepts.

Science
The students will begin studying how scientists classify animals, animal habitats, and ecosystems.


Religion

The students will attend our school wide Community Prayer on Monday, October 28th at 8:10am

The students will begin studying the lives of the saints within our classroom.

The students will pray throughout their school day and this includes at daily Pledge/Prayer, before lunch, and prior to dismissal.

The students will attend our school wide Mass on Friday, November 1st at 8:10 a.m. to celebrate    All Saint's Day!

Homework
The students will continue and complete their research on the life of a saint!  Every child will need to complete their "mini poster" on the life of the saint that was assigned to him/her.  The children will also need to finish creating their saint utilizing a water bottle.  A set of directions on this project, along with your child's assigned saint was sent home on October 21st.  The due date for this project is November 1st, All Saint's Day!  This project will be in lieu of our typical weekly Reading Log.  

There will be no Reading Log assignments until the week of November 4th.

The students will not have a formal Spelling Test this week due to Halloween and All Saint's Day.  Enjoy the extra family time together.
