It's Spring!

Hello Second Grade Families,
Welcome to the 5th week of Lent and the gift of Spring!  The season of transformation, hope, and new beginnings.  This seems so appropriate given the circumstances that we are all currently enduring.  Today, I listened to a Mass being streamed through my computer, and the priest ended with these words, "This too shall pass."  His words certainly resonated with me and I hope that they place you and your family at ease too.  May you all stay happy, healthy, and safe and know that the Holy Spirit will give us strength and Jesus offers us his peace.

This newsletter is going to be a little different than what I typically send out.  Instead, I'm going to try to simplify the newsletter and place it in a daily schedule format.  This format will also include "website links" to enhance your child's learning.  The links will appear in a light blue color.  I hope that it is both helpful and useful for all of our second grade families and it can be referred to as needed throughout the week.  Also note that you
do not have to stick to this schedule,  as everyone's daily schedule may be quite different.  However, it's a template that can guide and serve all of the second graders and their families.

Science ~ The students will begin learning about the lifecycle of a plant!
Choose an activity from your folder to assist you in learning about the following:
  • The parts of a plant
  • How a plant grows
  • What is a greenhouse? (I left a mini "Greenhouse" experiment for all of the kids to enjoy at home.  Lima beans work great for this activity!
  • How do seeds function? (I left an experiment for all of the children to study seeds.  Any seeds from home will work, but Lima beans work wonderfully well.)
  • What parts of a plant do you eat?  Can you identify the different parts of plants that you eat?
Here are some science related videos to assist the children in their learning about plants and their lifecycles.  It's a good idea to assist the children in understanding that all living creatures have life cycles, and even we human people have a lifecycle too.
