Goodbye August!

Hello Families of Second Graders,
Welcome to the last week of August and a four day school week!  Your kids have really jumped into their learning and both our faith formation and academics are in full swing.  Please continue reading to discover what will be transpiring in our classroom and right here at ACS for this upcoming week.



Language Arts





























































































































  




 Spelling ~ Long Vowels
Grammar ~ Types of Sentences
Writing ~ Narrative Writing
Target Skill ~ Author's Purpose, Compare & Contrast, Analyze/Evaluate

Religion ~ The students will continue learning about "Our Heavenly Father."
  • The students will learn that God made us.
  • The students will pray throughout each school day.
  • If time permits, the students will learn about the liturgical calendar of the Catholic Church.
Math ~ The students will continue to focus on Number Sense and Place Value.

Social Studies ~  The students will continue focusing on map skills.

Odds and Ends ~ 
  • Please send your child to school with a set of headphones that they can utilize during our computer lab time on Thursday's.  The headphones may be kept in your child's backpack, so they may use them both at home and at school.

Don't forget that your child has access to the following websites to enrich their learning at home:
  • Spelling City(spellingcity.com) ~ This site will help your child in preparing for their weekly Spelling tests.
  • IXL ~ This site will assist your child in their math skills.
  • Your child's username and passwords to these sites are located inside their agendas.

Welcome to Holy Week

  Hello Second Grade Families, Welcome to Holy Week.  In one week the gift of the resurrection will once again be celebrated.          Here's to a week of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.  Three simple actions to honor and to bring us closer to our savior, Jesus Christ.  It's my hope that you each have a beautiful Holy Week, a blessed Easter Sunday, and a wonderful Spring Break.  This week will be quite unique for your children, and so, I have listed key changes and/or activities that will be taking place this week. On Monday, April 11th ~  The second graders will enjoy a STREAM lesson in the morning.  The students will also have two specials on this day, Art & a special Music class. On Thursday, April 14th ~ The students will be dismissed at noon. The Month of May Has Arrived!

  Hello Second Grade Families, Welcome to the month of May!  This last month of school is bound to fly, and typically the children become more fatigued and excited for the end of the school year.  Please also know that this will be the final week for reading homework, however, the children will have a weekly spelling test for the next two weeks. It's the last week of school!

Hello Second Grade Families, We have arrived at the very last week of school!  This week is going to be super simple as I am now busily grading assessments, working on your child's report cards, and completing cumulative files for your children.  Inside your children's summer gift from me was a "memory book" for the students to work on.  I'd highly encourage having your children complete a few pages each day to assist them in practicing their writing skills.   Also, have you heard of the "summer slide?"  The summer slide is a term educators use to explain children "sliding back" in their learning due to not engaging in any academic activities over the course of the summer.  However, there's a way to prevent your child from experiencing the summer slide.  Research indicates, that students who read daily and practice their math skills often avoid the summer slide.  Here are a few tips to assist your child this summer.
