Hello Second Grade Families!
Welcome to our third week of school. A big thank you goes out to all of our second grade families who were able to attend "Curriculum Night." I greatly appreciated your support. All of the second graders are ready to establish their regular learning routine this week. The second grade procedures, rules, expectations, and assessments have all been completed! Please continue reading this newsletter to discover all that will be taking place both in the second grade and right here at ACS school.
ELA
This "Focus Wall" relays to you what your child will be learning in the area of English Language Arts. It also includes most of this week's Spelling list. Your child should have the complete Spelling list written down inside his/her agenda.
Grammar ~ Subjects and Predicates
Spelling ~ Short Vowels, a and i
Writing ~ Sententces that tell a true story
Target Skills: Sequence of Events, Author's Word Choice, Infer/Predict
Your children will have their very first Spelling test this Friday, August 24th.
Math ~ The students will begin their lessons on number concepts. This unit includes even and odd numbers, understanding place value, and problem solving.
Social Studies ~ The students will continue their lessons on map skills and they will then navigate into learning about landforms.
Here is the content that your children are focusing on:
Jesus, Our Life Religion series.
The students will attend our all school Mass on Friday, August 24th.
The students will pray during a variety of times through out the day.
Upcoming Dates
Homework
The students will need to prepare for their very first Spelling test that will take place on Friday!
The students will not have any other formal homework until after the Labor Day holiday! It is my intent, to allow the students time to acclimate to school and to their new routine. It is also my hope, that this will allow the children to receive a full night's rest.

- Cardinal directions (north, south, east, and west)
