Welcome to Camp Learned A Lot!

Hello Second Grade Families,
Can you believe that we have reached the final four days of school?  I would like to begin by thanking each and everyone of you for all of your support and efforts as we navigated through the second grade together.  Thank you for your partnership and for making my very first year at ACS so wonderful!  My heart is filled with gratitude to have had the gift of teaching your children this year.  I will miss them dearly.  I greatly look forward to seeing you all again next year and in the years that follow. Please continue reading to discover all that will be taking place inside our classroom and right here at ACS school!

 The students will wrap up their school year in a uniquely engaging way, the students will be experiencing a wide variety of camping themed activities!  Here are all of the learning activities that will be taking place this week!

 The students will:

  • Create 2nd grade memory books
  • Learn all about insects!
  • Design a camping scene
  • Write post cards from "Camp Learned A Lot!"
  • Solve Math story problems
  • Enjoy a "Camp Themed" celebration on May 23rd at 1:30 p.m.
  • Please send your child to school with their favorite board game on Wednesday, May 23rd.   The students will have time to play their games with their friends.  It is a good idea to label the game with your child's name on the outside of the box.  Thank you!
  • The students will enjoy STREAM based activities on Thursday, May 24th.
Also know that every student will be cleaning out their desks and bringing home their learning materials on Wednesday, May 23rd.  I will be supplying sponges, buckets, and soapy water to assist the kids in cleaning their desks, chairs, and various shelves in our classroom.

Welcome to Holy Week

  Hello Second Grade Families, Welcome to Holy Week.  In one week the gift of the resurrection will once again be celebrated.          Here's to a week of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.  Three simple actions to honor and to bring us closer to our savior, Jesus Christ.  It's my hope that you each have a beautiful Holy Week, a blessed Easter Sunday, and a wonderful Spring Break.  This week will be quite unique for your children, and so, I have listed key changes and/or activities that will be taking place this week. On Monday, April 11th ~  The second graders will enjoy a STREAM lesson in the morning.  The students will also have two specials on this day, Art & a special Music class. On Thursday, April 14th ~ The students will be dismissed at noon. The Month of May Has Arrived!

  Hello Second Grade Families, Welcome to the month of May!  This last month of school is bound to fly, and typically the children become more fatigued and excited for the end of the school year.  Please also know that this will be the final week for reading homework, however, the children will have a weekly spelling test for the next two weeks. It's the last week of school!

Hello Second Grade Families, We have arrived at the very last week of school!  This week is going to be super simple as I am now busily grading assessments, working on your child's report cards, and completing cumulative files for your children.  Inside your children's summer gift from me was a "memory book" for the students to work on.  I'd highly encourage having your children complete a few pages each day to assist them in practicing their writing skills.   Also, have you heard of the "summer slide?"  The summer slide is a term educators use to explain children "sliding back" in their learning due to not engaging in any academic activities over the course of the summer.  However, there's a way to prevent your child from experiencing the summer slide.  Research indicates, that students who read daily and practice their math skills often avoid the summer slide.  Here are a few tips to assist your child this summer.
