Advent ~ Week 1, The Gift of Hope!
Welcome to December Second Grade Families,
This Sunday Advent began. This week, the candle of "Hope" is to be lighted. Your children will be lighting up our battery operated "Hope" candle in class every day this week. Please also know that inside the second grade classroom, your children will begin a class "Jesse Tree"to help them prepare their hearts for the birth of Christ. Below, I have attached the meaning and purpose of a Jesse Tree that was written by Tara Ziegmont. The daily readings that will be utilized in class are from
Ms. Ziegmont's blog. A Jesse Tree is such a wonderful way for the second graders to begin each school day during the season of Advent.

What is a Jesse Tree?
The Jesse tree is the family tree of Jesus. It goes back to the very beginning, to Creation, it traces His family through the Old Testament, and it ends when He is born on Christmas day.
A Jesse tree is a little like an advent calendar, except that it emphasizes the true meaning of Christmas, the birth of Jesus Christ.
Like any advent countdown, the Jesse tree has one ornament per day. Unlike a calendar, though, the Jesse tree tradition focuses on a Bible story, a character, a devotion each day.
In four weeks, we read about kings and common people, about widows and children and brave fghters. We read about the great and wonderful things that God orchestrated on our behalf.
And then we rejoice in His birth.

Carefree Christmas Parade ~ Dec 08 2018Homework For the entire month of December, all of the students will need to read for 15 to 20 minutes nightly and fill out their reading log. The students will also need to study for their weekly Spelling test that will take place on Friday. These are the only two assignments that the students will need to complete for this week.
If a child does not return their homework completed on Friday, they will have to "clip down" on our behavior chart and they will also have to give me four raffle tickets. One ticket for every night they chose not to do their homework.
