Our First School Rosary

"Praying the rosary is like holding Mary's hand."
St. Theresa of Calcutta

Hello Second Grade Families,
On Monday, the entire school will be visiting St. Gabriel's Catholic Church at 2:20 pm to pray the rosary as a faith community.  Please know that I have an entire class set of rosaries within our second grade classroom.  However, if your child wishes to bring their very own rosary,  that is completely acceptable.   Please continue reading to discover all that will be taking place this week in the second grade classroom and right here at ACS.

Math
The students will continue their lessons on telling time using both digital and analog clocks.
Parent tip:  Analog clocks require children to think when it comes to telling time.  If you would like to enhance this mathematical skill, please feel free to purchase your child an inexpensive analog watch to wear to school to assist him/her in their ability of telling time.  Walmart has some great watches that are very reasonably priced!  Our on line IXL website also has "telling time" skills that your child can practice at home utilizing your home computer and/or device.

Social Studies
The students will continue their geography lessons.

These lessons will include:

  • how to read a map
  • the components and parts of a map
  • identifying and locating the 7 continents and the 5 oceans of our world
  • identifying different types of landforms
  • applying knowledge to answer questions utilizing a map
  • designing and creating a map

The students will utilize their "Jesus Our Life" religion series focusing on "God Made Us."

The students will participate in an all school Rosary on Monday, September 9th at 2:20 pm inside St. Gabriel's Catholic Church.

The students will be going to Mass as a school community on Friday, September 13thth at 8:10 am.

The students are also expected to read nightly for 15 to 20 minutes and to complete a simple reading log.               On Thursday evenings, please sign your child's agenda and also sign off on your child's reading log.

All homework is due on Friday's!  If a child doesn't return their homework they will be required to "clip down" on our behavior chart and they will have to submit one of their raffle tickets for the infraction.  This is to keep the children accountable and to foster the ideal of being responsible.
