Blessings!
Easter blessings to all of our second grade families!
I hope and pray that you were able to enjoy a lovely Easter surrounded by your family and that you had a relaxing Spring Break.
It has been five weeks since your children and I were all in class together at ACS and this will be the fourth week of distance learning for your children. I'd like to inform you of the plan of action as we proceed with our distance learning protocols in the second grade.

- Dr. Pristash sent out a notice to all of the ACS families of specific dates and times where they may visit the campus to pick up their child's learning materials. Parents will be driving up to the curb and an ACS staff member will be bringing your child's items directly to you. These items will include the next set of learning materials for your second grader.
- In the weeks ahead, I will continue to do my best to create simple, informative/fun videos for your children. Also, continue to plan on receiving a weekly newsletter from me every Sunday evening which will include a simple daily lesson plan that you may follow.
- From this day forward, the remainder of the language arts content is review and the only in depth mathematical content to be covered is learning how to measure in centimeters (However, learning how to measure in inches and centimeters was informally taught in the second grade during our daily morning work at various times throughout this school year). The second graders have completed all of their "required" academic content for this school year which is very typical for primary teachers. Primary teachers usually use the last month of school as a time for review and to grow our student's skill set to prepare them for the next grade level.
- Our second grade families have done a wonderful job of letting me know how they are working with their child at home. I'm going to take a "presume good will" approach to all of your children's academic learning and it's my plan to have your child's third trimester report card mirror that of the second trimester upon the approval of Dr. Pristash. My reasoning is that I had covered all of the required learning material with the exception of a few math concepts (Geometry and Fractions) prior to the school closure. I do NOT plan on collecting the student's schoolwork due to this virus being so contagious and Google Classroom was not set up at the time of the school closure for grades K-2 because research indicates that it isn't developmentally appropriate for these specific grade levels. However, some families have asked if they can send me pictures of their child's work and email it to me. Absolutely! I also can provide feedback and positive affirmations to your children.
- Both Science and Social Studies are optional learning items for your children at this time. The last topic to cover in Social Studies is "Economics." All Science content has been taught, however, I will do my best to find simple and fun activities your children can choose to do at home.
- In ending, there may be one more pick up of materials scheduled in May and I will need your child's Journey's Reading textbook and your child's Jesus Our Life religion textbook returned at that time.
