The Third Week of Advent ~ Joy!

Hello Second Grade Families,

This is the final countdown to our much anticipated Christmas Break!  Please know that your child will not have any homework this week!  May you all enjoy some extra downtime as a family.  Also, we will not be working in our regular Journey's series.  Instead, your children will be working on creating a writing sample on "How to Decorate a Christmas Tree."  The children will also be enjoying daily Christmas themed stories with a wide variety of language arts activities that coincide with the texts.

ELA

The students will create a formal writing sample on "How to Decorate a Christmas Tree."

The students will listen and will comprehend selected Christmas themed stories.   The students will also be required to complete the corresponding language arts activities that coincide with each story that is our language based lesson for the day.

Math

The students will continue to practice the skill of double digit subtraction.

The students will also enjoy a variety of math based stations that will further assist them in the areas of graphing, adding, subtracting, and solving story problems.

Science
The students will continue learning about how scientists classify animals.
Examples include;  reptiles, amphibians, mammals, birds, fish, etc.

Social Studies
The students will continue learning about how Christmas is celebrated all around the world.  This will allow the students to experience other cultures and traditions found around the globe!  So far, the students have learned about the cultural traditions in the countries of Mexico, Italy, France, and England.  This week, the students will learn about Sweden and Israel.

Religion

The students will focus on the season of Advent utilizing an engaging activity packet.

The students will learn about "The Coming of A Savior" utilizing our Jesus is Our Life religion text.

The students will pray throughout their school day and this includes at daily Pledge/Prayer, before lunch, and prior to dismissal.

The second graders will continue to pray for the intercession of St. Michael the Archangel per Father Chad's request.  All of the ACS students will be saying the prayer each time we attend Mass on Wednesday mornings and in our second grade classroom.

The students are also beginning to learn "The Act of Contrition" to prepare them for the sacrament of Reconciliation.
