ELA
This image will be posted each week to relay to parents what english language arts skills will be covered during the course of the week. All of these lessons come from the second grade Journey's reading series.
Essential Question: What is a perfect pet like?
Grammar: Subjects and Predicates
Spelling: Short Vowels a, i
Writing: Narrative Writing (Sentences that tell a true story)
Phonics: CVC syllable pattern and Open and Closed syllables
Math
The students will continue learning about odd and even numbers.
The students will also understand that arrays are images that relay repeated addition concepts.
The students will also demonstrate their knowledge that arrays relate to multiplication concepts.
Social Studies
The students will understand that the U.S. Constitution is a book of laws. The second graders will be working on creating their very own "Class Constitution." Our second grade class constitution will become "The Laws of the Land" within the second grade.
Religion
The children will be learning that each of them is "A Child of God" with unique gifts and talents. The second graders will also be working on growing their Discipline with a Purpose skills. The three skills that the students have had formal lessons on are the skills of listening, following instructions, and asking meaningful questions. This week the students will focus on the skills of sharing and demonstrating proper social skills.
The students will be attending our weekly all school Mass this Wednesday at 8:15 inside St. Gabriels's Catholic Church.
The students will also attend our Monthly Community Prayer, on Friday, August 27th at 8:10 a.m.
Homework
All of the students will need to prepare and study their list of Spelling words.
The second grade Spelling test will take place this Friday.
Here are the Second Grade Specials:
Monday ~ Art at 12:10
Tuesday ~ Spanish at 12:30 p.m. P.E. at 1:45 p.m.
Wednesday ~ Mass Day at 8:15 a.m.
Spanish 9:40 and Music at 1:00
Thursday ~ P.E. at 1:45 p.m.
Friday ~ No special area classes. However, I do my best to create fun learning based activities on Friday afternoons for the children to enjoy! Computer lessons will typically take place on Friday afternoons.
Upcoming Events
August 27 – Friday: Community Prayer and Noon Dismissal: Community Prayer at 8:10 am outside. All are welcome to participate. Noon dismissal. Please email office@acsphx.org if you need aftercare. 4 or more are required to have aftercare on a half day. Please indicate the estimated time of pick up.
September 3, Friday & Monday, September 6 – No School Labor Day Weekend
