Welcome to the Final Week of October!
Hello Second Grade Families,
This is the final week of the wonderful month of October! There's no doubt that the students are going to be filled with excitement due to Halloween quickly approaching. The second grade class will be celebrating Halloween on Friday afternoon in our classroom. Also, don't forget that your child's October reading log will be due this coming Friday! Your child's mini "Saint Report" will be due on Monday, November 1st which is All Saint's Day! Here's to a spooktacular week up ahead!
ELA
Essential Question: How can stories help you learn a lesson?
Grammar: Verbs in the Present
Spelling: Base Words and Endings -ed -ing
Phonics: Base Words and Endings -ed and -ing (Consonant Vowel Patterns)
Writing: Informative Writing - Instructions
Please note, all of the students are expected to have their weekly list of Spelling words written inside their "Agendas/Planners." This skill will best prepare your students as they navigate into every grade level at ACS. It is a skill that promotes being organized and responsible for keeping track of their homework.

Math
The students will continue learning about double digit addition concepts and strategies utilizing our Big Ideas Math textbooks.
Social Studies
The students will be focusing on identifying and understanding a wide variety of landforms. Hopefully, this unit will be completed by the end of this week.
Religion
- The students will attend an all school Mass on Wednesday, October 27th at 8:15 a.m. inside St. Gabriel's Catholic Church.
- Utilizing our the Jesus Our Life textbook, the students will be focusing on the sacrament of baptism. This chapter is called, "Becoming a Child of God."
- The students need to work on their "Engage It" Halloween themed reading log this week! Don't forget that your child needs to fill out the back side which focuses on character traits. The Engage It reading log is due this Friday, October 29th.
- The students will have Spelling words to practice and study for their upcoming test which will take place on Friday, October 29th.
- The students will need to complete and return their "All Saints" mini poster which is due on Monday, November 1st.
Don't forget that every second grader has access to the following websites to assist them in the areas of Reading and Math
- RAZ Kids (the students may use this site to complete their nightly reading homework)
- Splash
Math Learning (This site will assist your child in mastering
mathematical concepts that are taught inside our second grade
classroom.)

Monday ~ Art at 12:10
Tuesday ~ Spanish at 12:30 p.m. P.E. at 1:45 p.m.
Wednesday ~ Mass Day at 8:15 a.m.
Spanish 9:40 and Music at 1:00
Thursday ~ P.E. at 1:45 p.m.
Friday ~ There are no specials on Friday!
Upcoming Events
October 29, 30 Friday, Saturday: Wild West Book Fair begins. Book Fair will be open during Truck and Treat 5:30 pm – 8 pm.October 30, Saturday: Trunk or Treat after the 4:30 pm Mass. Decorate your car and hand out treats to the kids! Buy your parking lot space today! Or just come to Trick or Treat! All participants must register. Pizza dinner available to purchase. Read the Trunk or Treat flyer attached for more details. The school book fair will be open during the event!
