March is Right Around the Corner!

  Hello Second Grade Families, The month of March is right around the corner and we are now entering the third trimester of the school year!  Let's end this last trimester strong!  Please know that our school day begins at 8:00 am sharp, let's focus on upholding all of the ACS school uniform policies, and please know that the second graders need to read nightly and log it.  The reading logs are typically due on Friday's.  Research indicates that students who read nightly and log it tend to show the most growth in the area of reading fluency during their academic school year.  Please continue reading to discover all that will be taking place this week at ACS and within the second grade classroom. President's Day!

  Hello Second Grade Families, I hope everyone enjoyed their extended four day weekend!  This week, your students will be jumping right back into their regular learning schedule.  Last week, the students learned about the three branches of the American government and how these branches were created as a separation of powers.  Your children also learned about key American symbols, such as the Statue of Liberty, and The Liberty Bell.  This week, your students will begin learning about the history of America's expansion out west!  So, let's saddle up for another busy week of learning and growing. Happy Valentine's Day!

  Hello Second Grade Families, Happy Valentine's Day!  This week will be a short four day week, but it will be full of both academic and faith filled learning!  To kick off the week, your student's will be learning all about the history of Valentine's Day which is all due to the gift of St. Valentine.  St. Valentine was a priest/bishop,  who defied emperors' orders by secretly marrying couples who were in love.  The emperor, Claudius the III believed that if his soldiers were permitted to be married it would make them "soft," or "weak."  Eventually, St. Valentine was arrested for defying the orders of the emperor and was martyred on February 14th, 270 AD.    Valentine also wrote his final letter to his friend, Julia, and signed it From Your Valentine.  This is how the tradition of writing Valentine's all began!  Your children will be learning about this part of our faith's beautiful history.   Hello Second Grade Families, It's February!  A week from this Monday it will be Valentine's Day.  Please send your child to school on Monday, February 14th with their Valentine's cards.  The simplest way would be to purchase a class set of Valentine's cards and to simply have your child sign each card for their classmate.  There are 27 students in our second grade classroom.  I will send home a class list for those students who wish to address the outside of each envelope to their classmates.
