Happy Valentine's Day!

Hello Second Grade Families,

Happy Valentine's Day!

This week will be a short four day week, but it will be full of both academic and faith filled learning!  To kick off the week, your student's will be learning all about the history of Valentine's Day which is all due to the gift of St. Valentine.  St. Valentine was a priest/bishop,  who defied emperors' orders by secretly marrying couples who were in love.  The emperor, Claudius the III believed that if his soldiers were permitted to be married it would make them "soft," or "weak."  Eventually, St. Valentine was arrested for defying the orders of the emperor and was martyred on February 14th, 270 AD.    Valentine also wrote his final letter to his friend, Julia, and signed it From Your Valentine.  This is how the tradition of writing Valentine's all began!  Your children will be learning about this part of our faith's beautiful history.

Please continue reading to discover all that will be taking place for this four day school week!
