The Month of May Has Arrived!


 Hello Second Grade Families,

Welcome to the month of May!  This last month of school is bound to fly, and typically the children become more fatigued and excited for the end of the school year.  Please also know that this will be the final week for reading homework, however, the children will have a weekly spelling test for the next two weeks.

Please continue reading this newsletter to discover all that will be taking place this week inside the second grade classroom and right here at ACS.

Essential Question:  What can you learn from reading a fairy tale?

Grammar:  Possessive Nouns

Spelling:  Words with ow and ou

Phonics:  Words with ow and ou

Writing:  Opinion Writing

The students will begin learning about how to properly write in cursive.

The students will complete their lessons on money and will focus on telling time.
 
Science
The students will complete their lessons on states of matter (solids, liquids, gas).
 

Religion

  • The students will attend our all school Rosary at 2:20 pm inside St. Gabriel's Catholic Church.
  • The students will utilize their Jesus Our Life textbooks to focus on "The Mass."
  • The students will be attending our all school Mass on Wednessday, May 4th at 8:15 a.m. inside     St. Gabriel's Catholic Church.

 


Don't forget that every second grader has access to the following websites to assist them in the areas of Reading and Math

  • RAZ Kids (the students may use this site to complete their nightly reading homework)
  • Splash Math Learning (This site will assist your child in mastering mathematical concepts that are taught inside our second grade classroom.)
  • The students will continue learning how to type using our class set of Chrome Books this week utilizing the typingclub.com website.

Homework

The students will need to study their spelling words each night this week in order to best prepare them for their weekly Spelling Test.

The students will also need to read nightly and log it.  The reading logs are due this Friday, May 6th.

Monday ~ Art at 12:10

Tuesday ~ Spanish at 12:30 p.m. P.E. at 1:45 p.m. 

Wednesday ~ Mass Day at 8:15 a.m. 

                        Spanish 9:40 and Music at 1:00

Thursday ~    P.E. at 1:45 p.m.

Friday ~  There are no specials on Friday!

Upcoming Events

  • May 4, Wednesday:  Kindergarten Orientation Class of 2031 in the Ministry Building at 10:00 am – 11:30am.
  • May 2-6, Mon-Fri:  Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week: Morning breakfast, sweet tooth, mid day snack and luncheons for our teachers and staff. 
  • May 6, Friday:  Student Council Speeches are due.  Noon dissmisal. NO aftercare. Teacher professional development.
  • May 11, Wednesday:  Spring Concert at 6:30pm in the Parish Hall.
  • May 16, Monday: St. Gianna Molla presentation with Mrs. Cullen and Pro Life Ministry.  Learn about this beautiful saint and her works with Pro Life.  Earn a service hour.  Presentation will be 6:30pm-7:30pm in Mrs. Cullen’s classroom 
  • May 18, Wednesday: Annunciation Catholic School celebration of the Class of 2022 graduation at 1:00 p.m. in the Church.  All students and families are welcome.
  • May 27, Friday: Student Awards Assembly in the Parish Hall.  Noon dismissal.  Final day of school year 2021-2022.
