Advent ~ Week 3 ~ Joy

  Hello Second Grade Families, Welcome to the third week of Advent.  This week the candle that symbolizes "Joy" has been lit!  The birth of Jesus renews our spirits with the gift of joy.  This week will certainly bring the gift of joy to the second grade.  The Christmas concert will take place on Thursday, December 16th at 6:30 in the new St. Gabriel's Catholic Church.  It will certainly be a joyous occasion.  Also, on Friday, December 17th, the second graders will enjoy our "Christmas Around the World" classroom celebration!   Also, if possible, please have your child bring their favorite board game on Friday.  The children will have time to play their board game with their classmates. Advent ~ Week 2 ~ Peace

  Peace be with you Second Grade Families, Welcome to the second week of Advent.  May this week bring each of you the gift of peace.  To begin this week,  your children will be attending our all school Rosary on Monday, December 6th.  Monday will also be the feast day of St. Nicholas who is the patron saint of children.  Monday will bring many faith filled blessings and will be a positive start to our week! Also note, your children will need to prepare for their spelling test which will take place on Friday, and read nightly and log it using their December themed "Engage It" reading log.  Next week, there will be absolutely no homework.  Enjoy the extra time together as a family. Grateful, Thankful, and Blessed!

  Hello Second Grade Families, Happy Thanksgiving!  May each and every one of you have a blessed Thanksgiving surrounded by loved ones and those that you hold dear.  This week, your children will not have their regularly planned lessons.  There is no homework this week.  There will be no spelling test this week, and the children will not be practicing their reading skills from their Journey's textbook.  Instead, the children will be focusing on creating a persuasive writing sample, reading about the history of the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag Indian Tribe, and we'll be covering some language arts skills that will enhance your children's knowledge in the area of grammar.  Please continue reading to discover all that will be taking place in this short, yet busy week!   ELA The students will:   be learning all about idioms! create a persuasive writing sample that focuses on the children pretending that they are a turkey.  The kids will have t...

The Blessings of Sweet November!

  Hello Second Grade Families, Well, we are now almost halfway through November and Thanksgiving is right around the corner!  It will be a perfect time to count our blessings and to enjoy some much needed time with those that we hold dear.  Please know that next week, your children will not have any homework.  That means this week your children will need to complete and return their Engage It reading log on Friday.  The students will also have a spelling test this coming Friday.  Friday will be a busy day for the second graders because they also will be attending the ACS all school community prayer. November is in Full Swing!

  Hello Second Grade Families, Welcome to the second week of November!  Last week was a whirlwind of a week!  Your children arrived last Monday with their wonderful saintly projects and the saints came marching into the second grade classroom!  WOW!  Did your kids do an amazing job on their saintly projects.  Thank you!    Please know that your children will be learning about a wide variety of saints and the lives they led to be of service to God.  The students also enjoyed the book fair fun last week along with a wonderful celebration to honor their grandparents.  November is off to a bustling, yet exciting start!
