Welcome to Catholic School Week Second Grade Families! This week is guaranteed to be jam packed with fun and engaging activities and service projects to recognize the blessing of a family, a community, educators, students, patriots, and clergy.  To show my gratitude for you, your students, and Catholic Schools, I will not be giving the students their regular weekly homework.  Instead, your children will only need to prepare for a "Catholic Themed" weekly Spelling test and the words should be written inside your child's agenda.  Please know that the list will only consist of 8 words.  Let's focus on enjoying  a little more family time each evening this week and embracing the fun days that lie ahead!  Also note, that due to the hectic Catholic Schools Week Schedule, our lessons will be concentrated in the areas of Social Studies, Science, and Religion.  Please continue reading to discover all that will be taking place this week in the second grade classroom and righ

Hello Second Grade Families, Last week, your children dug into their social studies lessons in American History.  So far, the students have covered content on American Symbols, the names and locations of the 13 colonies, and how America was once ruled by King George the III who was the ruler of England.  We are also reading a Magic Tree House novel that is titled, The Revolutionary War on Wednesday,  by Mary Pope Osborne.  This read aloud will help the students to better understand historical events, along with great American leaders who led our country to freedom during the Revolutionary War.  We are really "growing our brains" by gaining knowledge of our American history in the second grade!  Please continue reading to see what other content and activities will be taking place in our classroom and right here at ACS!   Spelling ~ Long i words Grammar ~ Subject-Verb Agreement Writing ~ Narrative Writing Target Skill ~ Sequence of Events, Formal and Informal Langua

Happy New Year Second Grade Families! I hope this newsletter finds you well rested and excited for the wonderful year that lies ahead.  This week, the second graders are going to begin their week by organizing their desks, cubbies, and materials to assist them in the skill of learning how to be organized learners!  Also, the students are going to be introduced to a very engaging website that is called "Class Dojo."  This site has it all!  There are short videos to assist the kids in the areas of perseverance, empathy, gratitude, mindfulness and embracing a "growth mindset."  I can also send quick daily messages to parents through "Class Dojo."  As a parent, you can also view your child's daily behavior choices that took place during the day.    Please know that your child will be coming home with a parent invitation, so that you can sign up online to receive any "Class Dojo" messages that I send out to the second graders and their families
