The Gift of Joy

Hello Second Grade Families, Welcome to the third week of advent.  The week when the "Joy" candle is lit on the Advent wreath.  The birthday of Jesus is quickly approaching!  This week, the second grade classroom will be filled with the gift of "Joy" due to all the fun Christmas themed activities that will be taking place.  They will also be excited to know that there will not be any homework, or a spelling test due to our Second Grade Christmas celebration which will take place on Friday, December 20th.   Please continue to read this newsletter to discover everything that will be taking place within our second grade classroom and right here at ACS. The Gift of Peace

Hello Second Grade Families, Welcome to the second week of advent.  This week, the "peace" candle shines on the advent wreath.  May we all be more focused on the gift of peace during this holy advent season.  This week, your children will continue learning about the lineage of Christ in our "Jesse Tree" lessons.  Jesse was the father of King David from the old testament of the bible.  God promised us that the messiah would be from the house of David.  St. Joseph, who was the father of Jesus while he was here on earth was a descendant of Jesse.  The roots of Jesus fulfill God's promise and show us that Jesus is the messiah.  May we all look forward to celebrating the birth of our savior, our prince of peace! Welcome Back Second Grade Families! This newsletter is being sent with hopes that you had a beautiful Thanksgiving and a wonderful 4 day vacation from work and school.  We have now entered the month of December.  The season of Advent is now upon us and we all are greatly anticipating the blessings that Christmas brings.  In the second grade,  the students will be learning about the liturgical calendar, the season of Advent and what it means in our faith, and lessons that are centered around Christ which includes, "The Jesse Tree."  The Jesse Tree assists children in understanding the lineage of Jesus.  Our class will also take the time to enjoy the "wonder and awe" of Christmas which includes our very own Elf on the Shelf!  (Rumor has it that his name is Gabriel.)  The students will also enjoy lessons with a "Christmas Around the World" theme to give them a cultural perspective that Christmas is celebrated in many different ways around the globe.  It
