Read, Read, Read!

Hello Families of Second Graders,
Can you believe that we have arrived at the last few weeks of September?  Your children completed their ITBS testing last week and I am so very proud of their hard work and efforts!  To celebrate their perseverance, we enjoyed a bonus recess on Friday and a short video of The Berenstain Bears Count Their Blessings!  Both your children and I are eager to get back to our regular learning routines!  This week we will return to our Journey's Reading series and the children will need to get back to practicing their nightly reading for their homework.  Did you know that just 15 to 20 minutes of solid reading time really builds your child's reading skills?  Last week, I introduced the children to a free website where they can select e-books that are read out loud to them.  The kids loved it!  The web site provides "Tumble books!"  Tumble books are e-books for kids.  Listed below, you will find two links where your child can visit web sites to enjoy tumble books at their reading levels.   The first site is through the Phoenix Public Library and your child will need to enter their library card number in order to visit the site.  However, the second site is through a library in Portland, Oregon, and your child can select a "Tumble book" without a library card.   These e-books may be used for your child's nightly reading requirements.  However, please also have your child practice reading with you at least 2 nights a week.  I would strongly suggest that you read a page and then have your child read a page to you, as this technique will build your child's fluency skills!
