Love Is in the air!

Happy Valentine's Day Second Grade Families!
May you and your families enjoy celebrating the legacy of St. Valentine and the gift of love.  Love for our families, love of our neighbor, and love for our faith!  Please know that Ash Wednesday takes place on Valentine's Day this year, so your children will be celebrating Valentine's Day on Tuesday, February 13th at 1:30.  Mailboxes for your children to collect their Valentine's cards will be provided.  This week will also be a four day school week, and there will be no school on Friday, February 16th and Monday, February, 19th.  Please continue reading to see what else will be taking place this week in the second grade classroom and right here at ACS.

Spelling ~ Words with ar
Grammar ~ Commas in Dates and Places
Writing ~ Narrative Writing
Target Skill ~ Text and Graphic Features, Point of View, Questions

Math ~ The students will continue their lessons on 2 digit subtraction.

Social Studies ~ The students have completed their lessons on American History!

Don't forget that your child has access to the following websites to enrich their learning at home:

  • Spelling City(spellingcity.com) ~ This site will help your child in preparing for their weekly Spelling tests.
  • IXL ~ This site will assist your child in their math skills.
  • Your child's username and passwords to these sites are located inside their agendas.

Religion ~ 



The students will be learning about the holy season of Lent and about the significance of Ash Wednesday

The students will continue to  learn and practice "The Examination of Conscience" to prepare them for the sacrament of Reconciliation.  

The students will learn about the life and legacy of St. Valentine.

The students will also utilize their Religion text book to assist them in growing in their faith.  This week's lesson will focus on "The Sacrament of Penance."

The students will pray during a variety of times throughout our school day.

Complete the reading comprehension skill review page.

Tuesday
No Homework on Valentine's Day!
Wednesday
Please read for 15 to 20 minutes and write down the title of your book utilizing the weekly “Reading Log.”
Complete the Spelling practice page.

Don’t forget to have one of your parents sign your reading log and your agenda this evening!

Study for your Spelling Test which will take place on Thursday.

  Hello Second Grade Families, The last week of the school year has arrived...and so, here's to making this last week together fun, special, and positively memorable!  Please know that we will be doing a lot of unique and engaging learning activities this week in order to keep the students learning in a more interesting and exciting way! May is in full swing!

  Hello Second Grade Families, Happy Mother's Day to all of our wonderful second grade moms!  I hope that you each have had a beautiful day!  May is off to a busy start and your children are anticipating the gift of summer that's right around the corner.  Below are a few items to keep you in the loop about both school wide behavioral expectations and second grade academics. The students are required to have their shirts tucked in while school is in session.  Jackets are no longer needed as it is now warming up. The second graders will have a Spelling test this week, so make sure to have your child study in order to best prepare them for their test on Friday. There will be no more reading homework for the remainder of the school year! All of the second graders will soon be assessed on their reading fluency prior to exiting the grade level.  Your child's reading abilities will be communicated to you with your child's report card at the end of the school year. Let's Take A Moment to Stop And Smell the Roses!

  Hello Second Grade Families, There are only ten more days of school left!  Let's stop to savor these last few weeks of second grade.  Please know that your child will not have anymore spelling tests, or nightly reading homework.  Enjoy the extra family time and allowing your child to get a full night's rest.
