Hello September!

Welcome to the wonderful month of September second grade families!

 Can you believe that your children have been in school for almost a month?  The time is flying by inside our second grade classroom and your children have acclimated to their new grade level, the procedures, the expectations, and the routine.  This week will be our very first week of having nightly homework.  The students will be expected to read nightly and to log their reading on the handout that is provided inside their homework packet.  Your children will also have one nightly assignment to complete which is also located inside their homework packet.  All homework assignments are due on Fridays.  Please know that the second graders will not have any spelling words to learn for this week  and they also will not have their regular reading lessons due to it being a short week.  Instead, the students will be focusing on their very first formal writing sample, understanding abc order to the second letter, and sequencing events from a story.  Please continue reading to discover all that will be taking place inside our second grade classroom and right here at ACS school!

 ELA
The students will write a personal narrative about their favorite things to do in the fall season.

 The students will understand how to put words in abc order up to the second letter.

 The students will sequence events from a story.
Math
The students will continue their lessons on even and odd numbers, understanding place value, and problem solving.

Social Studies ~  The students will continue their lessons on map skills and they will then navigate into learning about landforms.  
Here is the content that your children are focusing on: 
  • Identifying and locating the seven continents
  • Identifying and locating the five oceans
  • Cardinal directions (north, south, east, and west)
  • Reading maps
Religion
The students will continue to focus on "God the Creator" utilizing the
Jesus, Our Life Religion series.

The students will attend our all school Mass on Friday, September 7th.

The students will pray during a variety of times through out the day.

 Homework
The students will read nightly and log their reading utilizing the reading log that has been provided inside their homework packets.  The students will also complete a nightly homework assignment that reiterates what was taught in class.  All homework assignments are due on Friday, September 7th.

Wednesday ~
  • Read for 15 minutes and log your reading on the handout that is located inside your homework packet
  • Complete the math skill sheet

Thursday ~
  • Read for 15 minutes and log your reading on the handout that is located inside your homework packet
  • Complete the sequencing of events skill sheet



Don’t forget to have one of your parents sign your agenda this evening!

  Hello Second Grade Families, The last week of the school year has arrived...and so, here's to making this last week together fun, special, and positively memorable!  Please know that we will be doing a lot of unique and engaging learning activities this week in order to keep the students learning in a more interesting and exciting way! May is in full swing!

  Hello Second Grade Families, Happy Mother's Day to all of our wonderful second grade moms!  I hope that you each have had a beautiful day!  May is off to a busy start and your children are anticipating the gift of summer that's right around the corner.  Below are a few items to keep you in the loop about both school wide behavioral expectations and second grade academics. The students are required to have their shirts tucked in while school is in session.  Jackets are no longer needed as it is now warming up. The second graders will have a Spelling test this week, so make sure to have your child study in order to best prepare them for their test on Friday. There will be no more reading homework for the remainder of the school year! All of the second graders will soon be assessed on their reading fluency prior to exiting the grade level.  Your child's reading abilities will be communicated to you with your child's report card at the end of the school year. Let's Take A Moment to Stop And Smell the Roses!

  Hello Second Grade Families, There are only ten more days of school left!  Let's stop to savor these last few weeks of second grade.  Please know that your child will not have anymore spelling tests, or nightly reading homework.  Enjoy the extra family time and allowing your child to get a full night's rest.
