Hello September!

Hello Second Grade Families,
Welcome back from our three day weekend!  I hope that everyone was able to enjoy some much needed down time.  The second graders are adjusting well to our academic routine.  This week the students will be immersed in all of their academic content areas with Christ at the center of all that we learn and do.  Also note, that beginning this week, your child will need to read nightly for 15 to 20 minutes and complete a nightly reading log.  All reading logs are due on Friday's.  Any student that doesn't return their reading log on Friday, will have to "Clip Down" on our behavior clip chart.  Research shows that children who read nightly and log their reading show the most growth in the area of reading throughout a school year.  I have seen this trend first hand as an educator.  Reading helps a child to "grow their brains!"  So, let's embrace a love for reading with our children!  Your child will also need to study for their Spelling Test which will take place on Friday.  Every child should be writing down their list of spelling words inside their agendas.  Here's to a wonderful four day week up ahead!  Please continue reading to discover all that will be taking place within our second grade classroom and right here at ACS.

Nightly Reading Ideas:
When your child reads each night they may choose to select a book that has been checked out of your local public library, a book from our classroom library (please make sure that your child returns it as many of our books were my personal purchases), or they can find a book to read that is on line.  One great reading resource is from a link called "Tumble Books."  I have provided the link below and plan on introducing this wonderful site to the children this week.  Feel free to click on the link below to visit the Tumble Book website that is through the Phoenix Public Library.  It's a free site that may be accessed when you use your library card through the Phoenix Public Library.  However, there are many times when the site allows you to utilize the link without a library card.  I hope that you can access this wonderful reading site.
