Fall is Everywhere!

Hello Second Grade Families,
Welcome back from your 4 day "Fall Break."  Hopefully, you and your family were able to enjoy the extended weekend to the fullest!  This week your children will resume their regular learning schedule and this will include studying for their weekly Spelling test and reading each night for at least 15 minutes and completing their reading log.  The homework will be due on Friday and the Spelling test will be given on Friday too.  Also,  this week the students will begin their formal writing lessons.  The second graders will be learning the six steps to the writing process (brainstorming, making a rough draft, editing, revising, and creating their final draft.)  Every formal writing piece that your child composes in the second grade, will be kept inside their individual three ring binders.  By the end of this school year, every second grader will have a collection of writing samples that will be sent home with them.  Please continue reading to find out all that will be taking place both in the second grade and right here at ACS school.

Math
The students will continue studying Place Value and Addition concepts.

Science
The students will complete their lessons on the Surface of the Earth concepts, and will begin studying Human versus Natural elements.

Religion
The students will step outside of their Jesus Our Life religion series this week to focus on the gift of our "Blessed Mother."  The months of October and May are reserved in our Catholic faith to honor our Blessed Mother, Mary.  The students will be learning about the four mysteries of the Rosary.  It is my hope,  that the students will also better understand that the Rosary is not only a series of holy prayers, but a way in which to remember the life stories of Jesus Christ.  After our lessons are finished, the students will be completing a large sized "Rosary" poster in small groups.  The poster displays how to properly pray the Rosary and the prayers that are to be said for each bead.  Once the project is completed, they will be displayed within our classroom.

The students will pray throughout their school day and this includes at daily Pledge/Prayer, before lunch, and prior to dismissal.

The students will attend our school wide Mass on Friday, October 18th at 8:10 a.m.

Any child that receives a 100% on this week's Spelling Pre-test , will be given a "Challenge" list of words to practice for the week.  The students working on the "Challenge List" will be tested on their list of words this coming Friday.
