Happy Valentine's Day!

Hello Second Grade Families,
Guess what holiday is right around the corner?  Valentine's Day!  The day when we celebrate the gift of love.  This week will also be a four day school week, and so, the second graders will be celebrating Valentine's Day on Thursday, February 13th.  Please have your child bring in 24 Valentine's to share with their classmates.  In class, we will be creating our Valentine's card holders and our wonderful homeroom mom's are planning a fun party for the second graders.  Also know that the second graders will be learning about St. Valentine and how the history behind Valentine's Day.   The second graders will also be having mini lessons on what it means to have "Gratitude" via our Class Dojo web site. It's going to be a week fostering the gifts of joy, love, and gratitude inside our second grade classroom community.  

 Please continue reading this newsletter to discover everything that will be taking place both at ACS and within our second grade classroom.

 ELA
This week, the students will be stepping outside of their Journey's text to read Poppleton in Winter.  The students will be analyzing the text and completing themed activities to enhance and build their language arts skill set.  

 The students will also continue to learn how to write in cursive.

 Spelling ~
Math
The students will continue their lessons on double digit subtraction with and without regrouping.

Science
The students will continue their lessons on states of matter (solids, liquids, gas).


Religion
The students will be learning about the life of St. Valentine and they will be discovering the history behind Valentine's Day.

The students will continue to practice the "Act of Contrition" to prepare them for the sacrament of "First Reconciliation."

The students will pray throughout their school day and this includes at daily Pledge/Prayer, before lunch, and prior to dismissal.

Homework
All homework assignments will be due on Thursday this week due to our 4 day President's Day holiday weekend!

The students will need to read nightly for 15 to 20 minutes and log their reading utilizing their reading log.  All of the reading logs will be due this week on Thursday, February 13th.

The students will need to prepare for their Spelling Test which will take place on Thursday, February 13th.

  Hello Second Grade Families, The last week of the school year has arrived...and so, here's to making this last week together fun, special, and positively memorable!  Please know that we will be doing a lot of unique and engaging learning activities this week in order to keep the students learning in a more interesting and exciting way! Let's Take A Moment to Stop And Smell the Roses!

  Hello Second Grade Families, There are only ten more days of school left!  Let's stop to savor these last few weeks of second grade.  Please know that your child will not have anymore spelling tests, or nightly reading homework.  Enjoy the extra family time and allowing your child to get a full night's rest. May is in full swing!

  Hello Second Grade Families, Happy Mother's Day to all of our wonderful second grade moms!  I hope that you each have had a beautiful day!  May is off to a busy start and your children are anticipating the gift of summer that's right around the corner.  Below are a few items to keep you in the loop about both school wide behavioral expectations and second grade academics. The students are required to have their shirts tucked in while school is in session.  Jackets are no longer needed as it is now warming up. The second graders will have a Spelling test this week, so make sure to have your child study in order to best prepare them for their test on Friday. There will be no more reading homework for the remainder of the school year! All of the second graders will soon be assessed on their reading fluency prior to exiting the grade level.  Your child's reading abilities will be communicated to you with your child's report card at the end of the school year.
