It's Time For Parent Teacher Conferences!

Hello Second Grade Families,

This week will be a shorter week due to Parent-Teacher Conferences.  Thursday, October 22nd will be a half day and students in grades K-5 will be dismissed at noon.  There will be no school held on Friday, October 23rd due to conferences.  Also know that the second graders will not have a spelling test this week and they also will not have a reading log.  In lieu of the reading log and studying for their spelling test, they will begin working on a project to prepare them for All Saint's Day.  Your children will have this week and the following week to work on their saintly project.  Every second grader will be assigned a specific saint in which to research and will have two components to complete for this second grade faith based activity.

First, every child will fill out and complete a "mini-poster" of their assigned saint.

Secondly, every second grader will create a depiction of their saint utilizing a water bottle.

Below, you will find all of the details of this required project.  These details, along with your child's assigned saint, and their mini poster will be sent home on Monday, October 19th.  Please make sure to have your child give you the needed handouts when they arrive home from school on Monday.

Have fun with this engaging activity and see it as a time to connect with your child in the spirit of our beautiful Catholic faith! May the saints guide you and may their spirits guide you as you work together on this faith based activity.

Here’s to a blessed All Saints Day!

ELA

Due to it being a short learning week, the students will be stepping outside of their Journey's reading textbook to focus on creating a formal writing piece about weather and to also learn about open and closed syllables.

Taking the time to formally focus on open and closed syllables will assist the students in their decoding of words, spelling, and writing abilities.

The children's formal writing piece will focus on informative writing and the writing process.

Math

The students will continue learning in their Go Math series.  The current unit the second graders are in will focus on addition and subtraction concepts.

Religion
The students will step outside of their Jesus Our Life religion series this week to focus on the gift of our "Blessed Mother."  The months of October and May are reserved in our Catholic faith to honor our Blessed Mother, Mary.  The students will be learning about the four mysteries of the Rosary.  It is my hope,  that the students will also better understand that the Rosary is not only a series of holy prayers, but a way in which to remember the life stories of Jesus Christ.
