President's Day!

 

Hello Second Grade Families,

I hope everyone enjoyed their extended four day weekend!  This week, your students will be jumping right back into their regular learning schedule.  Last week, the students learned about the three branches of the American government and how these branches were created as a separation of powers.  Your children also learned about key American symbols, such as the Statue of Liberty, and The Liberty Bell.  This week, your students will begin learning about the history of America's expansion out west!  So, let's saddle up for another busy week of learning and growing.

Math 

The students will continue learning about place value concepts to the thousands place and will focus on adding and subtracting to the thousands place.

Social Studies

The students will begin learning about America's expansion to the west.  The second graders will be learning about the history of The Lewis and Clark expedition and how Sacagawea was a key individual to the success of the expedition.

Religion

  • The students will attend Mass on Wednesday, February 23rd at 8:10 a.m. inside St. Gabriel's Catholic Church.
  • The students will utilize their Jesus Our Life textbooks to focus on "Asking Forgiveness."   This unit focuses on how our God is a merciful and forgiving God.
  • The students will continue to practice the Act of Contrition and we will begin learning this prayer to prepare the students for the sacrament of First Reconciliation. 
  • The students will attend the all school "Community Prayer" on Friday, February 25th at 8:10 am inside the Parish Hall.

 

Don't forget that every second grader has access to the following websites to assist them in the areas of Reading and Math

  • RAZ Kids (the students may use this site to complete their nightly reading homework)
  • Splash Math Learning (This site will assist your child in mastering mathematical concepts that are taught inside our second grade classroom.)
  • The students will continue learning how to type using our class set of Chrome Books this week utilizing the typingclub.com website.
Homework
The students will need to complete their "Engage It" reading log.
The reading log is due on Friday, February 25th.
The students will also need to study their Spelling words in order to best prepare for their Spelling test on Friday.

Tuesday ~ Spanish at 12:30 p.m. P.E. at 1:45 p.m. 

Wednesday ~ Mass Day at 8:15 a.m. 

                        Spanish 9:40 and Music at 1:00

Thursday ~    P.E. at 1:45 p.m.

Friday ~  There are no specials on Friday!

Upcoming Events

 February 22, Tuesday:  Saints and Sacraments led by Mrs. Cullen at 6:30pm in ACS. 

February 25, Friday:Community Prayer led by 3rd grade in the Parish Hall, 8:10 am.  All are welcome.  Noon Dismissal for Staff development.  No aftercare available.

February 26, Friday: Evening Under the Stars – Mardi Gras style 6pm cocktail hour, dinner to follow in St. Gabriel’s Parish Hall. Please support ACS and Catholic education.  Purchase tickets at Evening Under the Stars 2022  Look for Fat Tuesday emails with updates – how to volunteer, sponsor, purchase tickets, bid on auction items.
