Blessed!

Hello Second Grade Families,
Welcome to the fourth week of Lent.  Father Dennis came and visited the second grade classroom last week to discuss the holy sacrament of First Reconciliation.  The students shared their knowledge of two of Christ's parables that they had been learning about in class.  They discussed the parable of "The Good Shepherd" and the parable of "The Lost Sheep."  Father Dennis was very pleased with the second graders participation and responses.  What a blessing to have had Father Dennis visit the second grade to prepare them for their sacrament.  God is good!  Please continue reading to discover what will be transpiring in our second grade classroom and right here at ACS!
Spelling ~ Homophones
Grammar ~ Using Adjectives
Writing ~ Informative Writing
Target Skill ~ Understanding Characters, Figurative Language, Questions

Math ~ The students will continue their lessons on 3 digit addition and subtraction.

Science ~ The students will complete their lessons on solids, liquids, and gas.

The students will then navigate into learning about plants.  In fact, the students will be combining their knowledge of animals with their knew knowledge of plants.  Currently, the second graders are observing the development of caterpillars into butterflies inside our classroom.  Later this week, we will begin to research what flowering plants attract butterflies.  Then, every student will be planting  a flower in the "Second Grade Garden" which will be located on our playground.  Once our caterpillars go through their metamorphosis into butterflies, the students will release their winged friends into our butterfly garden.  This wonderful scientific experience will be our service project to honor our classroom saint, St. Kateri.  It is going to be such a meaningful experience for the second graders.  A big thank you to Mrs. Vogelsang for getting our garden ready for us!

Religion ~
The students will continue to  learn and practice "The Examination of Conscience" to prepare them for the sacrament of Reconciliation.

The students will also utilize their Religion text book to assist them in growing in their faith.  This week's lesson will focus on "The Last Supper."

The students will pray during a variety of times throughout our school day.

The students will attend "The Stations of the Cross" and Mass this week.
